Lake Moraine, National Park of Banff, Calgary, Alberta | Naturalist | Em.Pi.Ju.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Moraine Lake is a glacier-fed lake located in the beautiful Valley of the Ten Peaks in Banff National Park. The road first opens in late May or early June, but at that time don’t expect to see the turquoise glacier water that Moraine Lake is famous for.  In fact, at the high elevation of 1,883 meters, the lake does not start to thaw until June; the water level usually crests by late June. Once the melt water from the glacier up above starts to flow into the lake, it brings with it rock flour and silt. Thanks to the presence of these elements, when reflecting off the water, sunrays give the lake its stunning blue color. Near the canoe docks, starts an easy path that works its way along the shoreline to the back of the lake. As the trail weaves its way in and out of the trees, there are spectacular views of the water and mountains.

WHO I AM

My name is Alessandro Stoppa, and I’m originally from a small Italian town called Magenta, close to Milan. I came to Canada about four years ago, and for me it has been an amazing adventure since then.
Initially I went to Vancouver as a tourist to have a perception of what Canada was. Then, I went back to Italy to get my Working Holiday Visa, which I used to come back to Canada, in specific to Calgary, Alberta. I have an Italian bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. A few months after my arrival in Calgary, I decided to change my work visa into a Student Visa, which allowed me to enroll in an Environmental Technology Diploma at Sait Polytechnic, in Calgary. Now, I spend most of my time studying, and, when I have some free time, I’d like to meet new people in any type of social events. Moreover, I like to go to the mountains and stay in the middle of the nature when it’s possible.
